Only admins can add data sources. SaaS connectors run on Fivetran and are available on Basedash Cloud only, not on self-hosted deployments.
Why use Google Drive for sheets
The Google Drive connector is the best way to work with several Google Sheets:- Connects a whole folder of sheets at once.
- Syncs each file in the folder as its own table, so the folder becomes one schema.
- Doesn’t need named ranges or reformatted tables.
- Suits datasets spread across several sheets, like survey waves or multi-sheet reports.
To connect a single sheet, you can use the Google Sheets
connector instead.
Common uses
- Survey and research data: separate sheets for each survey wave or demographic, with raw data and processed results in the same schema.
- Financial and business reporting: budget sheets for each department or time period, such as an annual budget with separate revenue, expense, and forecast sheets.
- Project management: tracking sheets for each team or project phase, such as separate sheets for tasks, resources, and milestones.
- Data analysis: a sheet for each experiment or data source, kept alongside the analysis results.
Best practices
- Keep related sheets in a dedicated folder.
- Use consistent column names across sheets.
- Use folders to group related data.
- Only put sheets that belong to the same schema in the folder. Keep other files in separate folders to avoid syncing unneeded data and causing schema conflicts.
Connect Google Drive
- Go to the Data page and select Add data source.
- Search for Google Drive and open it.
- Select Connect.
- In the Fivetran setup form that opens, sign in to Google Drive or enter the credentials it asks for, then finish the form. Choose the folder that contains your sheets to connect them all at once.
- Basedash starts the first sync. When it finishes, the Google Drive tables appear on the Data page.
Manage the sync
Open the connector from the Data page to see its status and synced tables. Admins can change these settings:- Enabled: turn off to pause all syncs, and turn back on to resume.
- Sync frequency: how often Basedash checks Google Drive for new data, from every 15 minutes to every 24 hours. New connectors sync every hour.
- Sync now: starts a sync right away.
- Synced tables: choose which schemas, tables, and columns sync, and use New data to decide what happens when Google Drive adds new ones. Save your changes to apply them.
- Access: choose who can see this connector’s tables. See data source access control.
- Connection details: select Edit to reopen the Fivetran setup form and update credentials or configuration.
